Worth Playing
By Cody MedellinShadow Labyrinth is good if you set your expectations accordingly. The constant corpse eating makes the game feel darker than expected, while the mazes are a nice diversion. The overall mechanics don't stand out compared to other titles, but the basics are performed well enough that the game remains enjoyable. The presentation is good but not great, while the story and overall premise exists more as an exercise in head-scratching than something you're going to want to remember. Again, the game is better than expected but not extraordinary; Metroidvania fans will get some enjoyment out of this before moving on to stronger titles.

By Mat trbaOn paper, Shadow Labyrinth is a Metroidvania game that doesn't do anything wrong, but the result is just an average game. It doesn't excel in any area: the gameplay is mediocre and the graphics are uninspiring.

By Adrià MAShadow Labyrinth is a surprisingly dark and demanding 2D action Metroidvania that successfully reimagines the Pac-Man universe. Its deep combat and labyrinthine level design are its best assets, reinforced by the distinctive Puck mechanic. However, its high difficulty and some discrete visual aspects may be an obstacle for some players.

By Vinicius RufinoShadow Labyrinth is a game celebrating 45 years of Pac-Man and offers a great “what if the game were like that?” possibility. Mysterious, labyrinthine, full of references, and with a deep, thought-provoking story. Unfortunately, the high price for the image quality delivered may scare off new players, but it’s certainly a full and refreshing dish for the old guard.

By Leigh ZemskiOne of the main themes from the Secret Level episode that acts as a prequel to Shadow Labyrinth is ‘strength in repetition’. They took that a step too far in Shadow Labyrinth itself. At times, it almost felt like a chore to play Shadow Labyrinth. There are certainly some good elements here, so the game isn’t a total failure by any stretch. However, the highlights are so few and far between that overall, I can’t in good conscience recommend this game to anyone other than the biggest Metroidvania or Pac-Man fans.
