Final Weapon

Concord is the definition of a "fine" shooter. The gunplay is fun, but there is nothing here to set Concord apart from any other game on the market. Between its lackluster modes, characters, and price, it's no surprise that Concord was unable to differentiate itself enough to find a player base.

Firewalk Studios' work started off on the wrong foot with a surprising announcement, but one that generated very few expectations. After that, the pre-release beta generated great uncertainty due to the number of active players, and left many doubts. If Concord returns, it has to do so not only bringing a radical change in terms of what it proposes, but also seeking to attract a non-existent and disenchanted community from the first moment.

Concord will forever be remembered as one of the most notorious flops in the entire industry. And yet there is hope that at least some lessons can be learned from this whole ordeal.

Concord is fun and serviceable and a far cry from broken, cash-grab titles like The Lord of the Rings: Gollum and The Day Before. But it's asking for an upfront payment for an experience most people paid for, played and enjoyed eight years ago when Overwatch launched. Heck, even Overwatch 2 launched as a free-to-play title last year and still found itself standing on the stage in front of a tough crowd. It's then baffling that Sony thought a hero-shooter in 2024 could be released with upfront pricing. Concord should have been free-to-play, launched on PS Plus — I hope it does make a comeback in that form at some point. Its release should have been pushed back after the dismal open beta. Instead, Sony let it walk out to its grave.

Concord is unfortunately another undistinguished hero shooter. It offers nothing special to set it apart from the competition, while offering a dull cast of characters, an unnecessary storyline that took off without any prior player engagement.
