Borderlands 3 is a first-person looter shooter set seven years after the events of Borderlands 2. Players select one of four new Vault Hunters and travel across multiple planets to stop Troy and Tyreen Calypso, twin cult leaders seeking to harness the power of alien Vaults scattered throughout the galaxy. The game features procedurally generated weapons, cooperative multiplayer for up to four players, expanded skill trees with multiple action skills per character, and new traversal mechanics including sliding and mantling.

About the story

Seven years after the defeat of Handsome Jack, twin siblings Troy and Tyreen Calypso have formed the Children of the Vault, a violent cult built from Pandora's bandit factions. The twins, both Sirens born conjoined, seek to absorb the power of alien Vault monsters across the galaxy and open the Great Vault, a prison containing an interdimensional creature called the Destroyer. A team of new Vault Hunters, recruited by the Crimson Raiders and their leader Lilith, must pursue the Calypsos across multiple planets, forging alliances with old friends and new while racing to prevent the twins from unleashing a force capable of consuming the universe.

If you’re expecting a great evolution to the series, you might be a little disappointed with what Borderlands 3 brings to the table. But if you’re happy to jump into more of the same, albeit on a greater scale, you’ll find a lot to love here. And on the new generation of consoles, Borderlands 3 shines better than ever. Playing at 60fps with up to 4K resolution really makes a world of difference; Borderlands 3 has never been more of a pleasure to shoot your way through. So, if you’ve not yet picked it up or it’s been sitting in your pile of shame and you’ve been lucky enough to grab a next-gen console, seriously consider paying it some attention.

Borderlands 3 on next-gen systems, and the PS5 in particular-thanks to the immersive use of DualSense features such as adaptive triggers-is the definitive way to play the third mainline Borderlands game either in a full crisp 4K or in a game-changing 120 frames per second.
