The gimmick of constant laser chaos and its skill-based focus will be fresh to many players jumping into this genre, or to those tired of the pain caused by RNG based titles. However, the truth here is that far better titles exist and have greater variety and depth within their levels and upgrades, which are the essence of any game built for replayability.

By EdENLaser Disco Defenders is very addictive and a lot of fun. A single run in story mode will keep you busy for a bit as you retry over and over again after being defeated. Every time you lose you learn something, and unlocking new accessories will give you and advantage over your enemies in subsequent runs. If you’re looking for an arcade-style release on PS4 and Vita – and a cross-buy one – then you should definitely give Laser Disco Defenders a try!

Some of the groundwork laid by the developers leaves room for excitement, but there just isn’t enough carefully crafted content to back up the solid mechanics. It adds some interesting mechanics to the genre and has a very wacky premise. While the game is not as memorable as I would have like, and can be too difficult at times, it is still unlike any other game of this style that I have played before. Even though the game may not stick with me as long as one could, it manages to be something original in such a crowded genre of games, which is very impressive.
