Heaps of fun and plenty chaotic, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the closest we've ever gotten to Mario Kart on PC… for better and worse.

In any other year it would stand head and shoulders above the competition. But in a year like this, where we can compare and contrast CrossWorlds with Mario Kart World so easily, its faults seem a lot more glaring. As it stands, it’s a very solid kart racer that has the misfortune of being compared to one that’s just more enjoyable.

I certainly didn't expect to say this, but after playing Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, I must say I'm very impressed with how much love and care this game received. I don't like to fuel the rivalry that many people say SEGA and Nintendo still have, but if I had to choose between this game and Mario Kart World, it wouldn't even be a competition.

In the end, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds proves itself to be an excellent racing game, full of content to keep you playing for hours. It secured its place on the Switch, and Sonic Team finally hit the mark — perhaps with the best title in the series since the spin-offs began being released.

All told, I’d say that this version is certainly worth the punt if you’re invested in playing this on Nintendo platforms - the Switch 2 Edition fixes the issues that were holding this game back from being truly great. Unfortunately, owners of just the Nintendo Switch won’t benefit from these optimisation improvements, but if you already own this game and have a Switch 2, the $10 upgrade feels like a reasonable price to pay for such a notable leap over the old version. I’d suggest picking this up, if only to experience what a great kart racer not made by Nintendo can be like.
