War Thunder is a free-to-play vehicular combat MMO featuring aircraft, ground vehicles, and naval craft spanning from the early 20th century to the modern era. Players progress through technology trees across multiple nations, unlocking increasingly advanced military vehicles. The game offers three realism tiers for each vehicle type: arcade, realistic, and simulator modes. Originally developed as a flight simulator under the name "World of Planes," the game expanded to include tanks in 2014 and naval forces later, becoming a combined-arms experience. A mobile version was released in 2023.

Gamerheadquarters
By Jason StettnerWar Thunder Xbox One works well to provide an authentic experience whether you're on the ground in a tank or in the air flying around as a plane.
MMOGames
By Karl de MareWar Thunder is a solid flying shooter that is a must for flying enthusiasts.
PC Gamer
By Rob ZacnyWar Thunder rules the air but the lack of polish hurts, as does the dull ground warfare.
GameGrin
By Joe PringFor all of its variation in gameplay, War Thunder just never really feels very engaging. The extremely tactical nature that makes its closest relative so addictive just doesn't exist, and while that's not the only way to make a war sim entertaining, Gaijin haven't offered a suitable alternative.
GameSpot
By Brett ToddSmooth and exciting aerial and tank action is at the heart of War Thunder, a big and broad multiplayer excursion back to World War II.
