Transient: Extended Edition is a hard game to recommend. It doesn’t really succeed at anything other than looking great, like the shell of an amazing horror experience that is completely hollow on the inside.

Transient Extended Edition is a great concept, but the implementation is flawed on every level. The art style is stunning, but the graphical engine can’t keep the pace. The game world is truly different, but there is not too much to do in it. The puzzles are too simple and feel like a filler so you wouldn’t call the game just a walking simulator.

Transient creates great settings but doesn't utilize either one very well. Its story should have been its most substantial aspect but instead ends up being its weakest. Through its puzzles are solid, the game holds your hand when solving them, leaving almost zero need for critical thought. What ends up being the best part of the game are the mini-games that transport you to other titles that Transient took inspiration from.

I don't doubt that trying to craft games that blend sci-fi concepts with some Lovecraftian horror elements can be a real challenge when also trying to make the experience coherent... that said, even with that caveat in mind, Transient is an odd bird...

Overall, fans of H.P. Lovecraft and Lovecraftian lore as well as fans of Cyberpunk and puzzles should check out Stormling Studios and publisher Iceberg Interactive’s Transient: Extended Edition. Plenty of crazy visuals with pieces of lore scattered about and a variety of puzzles made this Lovecraftian Cyberpunk thriller set in a post-apocalyptic future great to experience near the end of the gaming year.
