The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom is a decent take on the franchise offering some fun, easy going hack and slash action for the whole family.

The Last Kids On Earth and The Staff Of Doom may keep the young fans of the series entertained for a good amount of time. However, the lack of overall depth and no serious tie-ins to the plot of the show makes this an effort that more discerning gamers can safely ignore.

In this seemingly semi-open world title, the plot is quite short ended and the gameplay was forced on rails. There is almost no consideration in terms of playable character balances and the crafted gear has less to no merit since it doesn’t provide any new elements in skill sets. Additionally, the vast majority of combat is just rinse and repeat. If you’re aware and enjoyed the original book and animation, some of the appearances will be familiar, so treat it like a side-story act and you’ll still be able to chill and enjoy this game to its fullest.

The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom is a lot of good light-hearted fun and another great game for young gamers over eight. Even this almost 40 year old gamer got right into it and couldn’t put the controller down. It’s a decent challenge for the target age group and the content is balanced with great cartoon graphics and humourous story elements. It has all the hallmarks for an aRPG with 4-player couch co-op and lots of collectibles and upgrades to extend your playtime.

Like the apocalypse itself, The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom is rather messy, and not everything works like it should. It doesn’t quite do the series justice, but there are glimmers of a fun game here. Just be prepared for some glitches, and a lot of repetitive missions. Still, for kids who are fans of the Netflix show, the use of the actual voice cast for the main characters adds some worthy authenticity.
