Critic Reviews
Fintendo
By Ville Kovanen“A systematic game with shockingly poor performance.”
Twisted Voxel
By Ali HaiderNightdive’s remake masterfully preserves Citadel’s oppressive atmosphere and ingenious UI, yet the Switch 2 port lacks technical refinement. Erratic frame pacing and clunky Joy-Con controls undermine the immersive simulation, leaving players to battle frustrating hardware constraints more often than SHODAN’s rogue digital godhood.
Nintendo Blast
By Fábio Castanho EmídioSystem Shock is a competent game and an even stronger remake, polishing the original release with current graphics and reviving an icon for a new generation. However, like SHODAN reviving corpses and disfiguring them into zombie cyborgs, the Switch port falls short in crucial aspects and, overall, fails to remember its origins for preservation purposes. It's a very good game, worthy of its applause, but a little more polish would be appreciated to honor what it created and helped build.
Nintendo Life
By Ollie ReynoldsSystem Shock is, on paper, a brilliant remake that thoughtfully updates the 1994 original for modern systems, introducing both gyro aiming and mouse support along with a host of graphical upgrades. Unfortunately, the move over to the Switch 2 has tanked the performance, resulting in a game that never feels satisfying enough to play.Should this get fixed in the future, it may well be worth investigating, but for now, you'll be better off playing it on another platform.
NintendoBoy
By Erick FigueiredoSystem Shock ends the Switch 2 year with a beautiful combination of first-person shooter, survival horror, and cyberpunk theme. Nightdive did a great job porting the remake to Nintendo's new platform and using its unique features to offer an experience that will even be new for those who have already experienced the modern version of the 90s classic.
