Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst the detailed neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments of its seedy underbelly. Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by nothing but unassuming droids and dangerous creatures. See the world through the eyes of a stray and interact with the environment in playful ways. Be stealthy, nimble, silly, and sometimes as annoying as possible with the strange inhabitants of this foreign world.

About the story

Lost, alone, and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten city. Along the way, the cat befriends a small flying drone, known only as B12. With the help of this newfound companion, the duo try to find a way out.

Stray is able to pull some innovative ideas in neat ways. It is creative in how you can run around these levels and interact with your environment. There does seem to be some curing factor in just roaming the world as a cat. Inadequate challenge and reward mixed with the limitations of the hardware may sour your experience, but the attention to detail, fun designs, interesting narrative, and fantastic music lighten these burdens. Save the future by protecting the past in this pawsome tail of a time!

Overall, this game is worth the $30 price tag. It might be short but the amount of content and story makes up for the length of gameplay. BlueTwelve Studio has crafted a world that feels simultaneously alien and familiar, blending futuristic elements with warmth and humanity and offering an intimate and unique lens through which to explore a world filled with wonder. Perhaps its greatest achievement though is how it connects players emotionally—not just to the story, but to the very act of being a cat. Whether you’re a cat lover or a fan of immersive adventures, Stray is a must-play, hence the A+ rating. Let us know what you think in the comments!

Stray makes the port to the Switch and the orange ball of fur lets us immerse ourselves in a dystopian world full of drones and robots. If you like cats, you should take a closer look at the game and be patient with the awkward controls.

Stray is a fantastic game that really captures the energy of our feline friends, but the Switch version of the game is a significant downgrade.

Stray won't challenge you, frustrate you, or take up too much of your time. Perhaps that's why we enjoyed it so much. It plays like an open-world point-and-click paired with largely on-rails action sequences. Some minor gripes and expected disparities between the Switch port and versions elsewhere aside, as we sauntered around its post-apocalyptic environments on all fours, Stray did an impeccable job of making us want to talk to everyone and explore everything it had to offer – and we had an appetite for more once it was all over. To us, that's the mark of a compelling adventure.
