Shishimai Rinka was a high schooler who ran a small café named Lion House in place of her grandmother. She lived her life much like any other person her age, but one day, she was caught up in an explosion while returning home on the train alongside her friend, Hitsuji Naomi. In an attempt to save her friend's life, she shields her on instinct the moment the explosion goes off, losing her life in the process. However, before she knew it, she was back at Lion House, happily chatting with her friends as if nothing had happened in the first place.

It’s a game that feels so much more than the sum of its parts with one of the most engaging narratives and cast of character’s I’ve ever seen in a video game, especially one of its length. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone into the visual novel genre, and even just to people who enjoy mystery and slice of life stories.

After releasing brand names, it's with Fatal Twelve that Prototype shows it's also possible to find quality in porting lesser known visual novels to consoles.

At a budget-friendly $20 at the time of writing, Fatal Twelve is easily recommendable as a quick and entertaining read between more intensive games or stories. It’s not the greatest take on a death game story I’ve seen, but it’s a great “popcorn flick”-style story with some interesting characters and themes.
