We Were Here Too is an online only, first-person cooperative adventure set in a fictional medieval castle. The survivors find themselves in a drastically different scenario. One is trapped in what seems like a royal court, while the other finds themselves in an abandoned tomb. Once again, all they have is a walkie-talkie, with a familiar voice on the other end. Do you have what it takes to survive the castle… together with your friend?

About the story

In 1536, there was a vivid kingdom, ruled by King Bartholomeus of Amber-Adelaide and his family. It was the time of monarchs and the king made sure that was well known. He ruled together with his wife, Queen Leonora and his two daughters, and got advice from his 4 generals, whose loyalty was questionable. Then death drew a veil of melancholy through the halls of Castle Rock and made them colder than ever before. In We Were Here Too, you and your partner go back to Castle Rock to rescue your friends from the quarters of the first general: Warden Brutus. Dark secrets are unveiled when you enter the castle. Once a place of death, now the spirits of the lost ones return to their home and they make sure you won’t leave the castle… alive.

Use a Potion

We Were Here Too offers another enjoyable co-op puzzle-filled escapade, but it did have a few more technical issues when compared to the first game. Those communication bugs were particularly frustrating for example, whilst the disappearing items just seemed a little weird. Fortunately, they were issues that could be fixed by simply re-loading the game, so they don’t make We Were Here Too feel unplayable. It’s definitely a lot grander in scope and featured more variety and puzzles than its predecessor too, so it’s clear that the developer have taken the series in a positive direction. Still, it’s hard to ignore some of the issues we faced, even if We Were Here Too did trump the first game in lots of elements of its design. If you’re a fan of the original then you’ll definitely want to play it, but maybe it’d be a good idea to have a party chat set up outside of the game before starting…

We Were Here Too is a great sequel and really elevates the unique mechanics the franchise offers. Despite a difficulty spike on one puzzle and some wonky looking cutscenes, We Were Here Too is worth a play and really shows the potential for this series and more co-op games in the future.

After completing We Were Here Too, I couldn't help but wonder if it took the series anywhere new, or whether it could have simply been classed as an expansion to the first. In the end, what I wanted from this title was more; I wanted to do more puzzles in this world, in this unique way, and that's exactly what We Were Here Too delivers on.
