Touhou Spell Bubble is a versus puzzle game which combines Puzzle Bobble-style orb shooting with rhythm elements
About the story
When it happened, it was just the same old, same old. I remember Marisa looking proud of herself as she held it, hot off the presses. She was like, "It's a new invention created by the magician trio representing Gensokyo! It's for a portable game console that you operate using Spirit Power! At the time I thought, wow, she must be really bored...and maybe she was. But when I turned it on, a wondrous scene unfolded before my eyes. I remember thinking, wow, that's a lot of bubbles popping around. And then she was like, "Ah-hah! Bubbles!" She seemed to understand what was going on. At the time, I went through the motions, or just watched Marisa play. But I didn't really think much of it other than, "Well, this is weird." However, in time, once this game really took off in Gensokyo, I came to realiaze it's a major breakthrough in gameplay. Even in a peaceful place like this. I sometimes feel like I'm in a feverish delirium, seeing things like storms that aren't really there. Even with a particular omen, you have to strain your eyes hard to see it. Sometimes it's nothing more than a little ripple in the air. Looking back now, it wasn't really signs of a major upheaval... In a way, it might have just been a little calm before the "storm" that Gensokyo hasn't seen before... Or something like that.

Noisy Pixel
By Hunter KreinhopFor veterans of the Touhou series, Touhou Spell Bubble is a no-brainer. Voice acting, pulchritudinous artwork, and a side story featuring Touhou’s main characters will be sure to please. For newcomers, this is a great way to learn about the setting in a bite-sized adventure.

By Shane JuryDespite entering a crowded genre on the Nintendo Switch, Touhou Spell Bubble stands out above most for a brilliant audio collection, and unique addictive take on the classic Puzzle Bobble system. A lack of online support, bar the downloadable song packs, is a shame, but for local one-on-one, and an enjoyable solo endeavour, this nails that essential feel of "easy to learn, hard to master."
Nintendo Blast
By Juliana Paiva ZapparoliTouhou Spell Bubble is an excellent rhythm puzzle that combines two franchises from different genres in a unique way, in addition to having a vast cast of artists and voice actors. Even though it is a niche game and more meaningful only to Touhou fans, the spin-off is full of fun and fantastic replayability that can be extended with the local multiplayer. With music and settings for all tastes, it is an unusual mix that works well - and, of course, it can serve as a gateway to the fantastic universe created by ZUN.
Pure Nintendo
By Kirk HinerTouhou Spell Bubble is a clever and challenging game that combines bubble popping mechanics with rhythm elements and surprisingly intricate strategies. The price may be high, but it'll pay off if you're able to stick with it-especially if you can squeeze extra life out of local multiplayer instead of having to rely on the DLC purchases.
