Tides of Tomorrow is gorgeously crafted and features a brilliant take on asynchronous multiplayer. It's a shame that player agency is surprisingly shallow and limited, and the game is too long to entice multiple playthroughs and experimentation.

Despite a clever central mechanic that ties into its core message, Tides of Tomorrow is let down by heavy-handed storytelling, simplistic mechanics and a regular loss of immersion.

Tides of Tomorrow boasts an interesting world, and has great foundational ideas, particularly with its approach to asynchronous multiplayer. However, it feels more inconsequential and disjointed than it should, and as a result doesn't fulfill its potential.

The numerous choices rarely carry the weight they should, and the watered-down writing style ends up excessively muting them. Tides of Tomorrow hints at something enormous beneath the surface, without ever truly bringing it to the surface.

Tides of Tomorrow does a lot of really cool things, and the narrative is the star of the show. I have to admit, in the early hours I wasn’t massively engaged, but by the mid-way point I began to care for several of the main characters, and did want to see just what happens to this broken world, and whether it can be saved.
