By Chance Townsend'Townfall' is a good, well-made entry in the Silent Hill franchise. It's tense, atmospheric, and runs smoothly. Even though it introduces some great ideas, it sticks to the standard formula. It's easy to enjoy and easy to forget.
The GameSlayer
By The GameSlayerKonami and Screen Burn Interactive hit the mark with Silent Hill: Townfall, a first-person psychological thriller set in a eerie 1990s Scottish harbor town. Trading hyper-realism for a striking stylized look, it shines with spine-chilling soundscapes, clever note-worthy puzzles, and a rad handheld CRTV gadget for tracking lore and enemies.
DayOne
By Jesse NorrisSILENT HILL Townfall tries something new, shifting perspectives and de-emphasizing combat. Despite looking and sounding great, with a story that features multiple satisfying endings, the gameplay lets it down.
The Outerhaven Productions
By Andrew AgressSilent Hill: Townfall delivers an intriguing and ultimately moving story that dovetails with thematically relevant puzzles. It’s just a shame its combat gets swallowed up in a fog of subpar stealth mechanics.
Console Creatures
By Bobby PashalidisSilent Hill: Townfall mostly succeeds at emulating what makes the series so beloved. It captures the tension-filled town, dense fog, puzzles, and sense of dread; Townfall excels. While Simon's abrupt appearance in St. Amelia is jarring at first, the slow burn that follows builds the tension well. The atmosphere feels like the older games and skews closer to them than Silent Hill f, with so many classic elements returning. Screen Burn knows what makes these games tick, but it also struggles to find the right balance.
