Critic Reviews

By Qualbert.comCurrently, with the posting of this review, Forspoken has been out for 6 months and is at least half-price. With numerous patches and DLC content, now is possibly the best time to leap head-first into the magical world of Athia. If you can get past the less-than-perfect visuals and dialogue, you will love the intricate story with tons of lore that go effortlessly with all the fun fantastical parkour.

By Zdeněk SamecIt’s a shame that Forspoken wasn’t a huge commercial success. Players were put off by the high price tag for what is actually quite a small amount of content (you can finish it quickly if you’re not aiming to complete everything but just want to get through the story), and some players were also bothered by the graphics and optimization. But you can’t please everyone. I’m sorry that this kitschy (but in a good way, in my opinion) beautiful love story, which fully unfolds in the end, didn’t melt the heart of the average gamer, just like the supposedly imperfect open world and combat system. Then we have to ask how Forspoken stacks up against games like Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, and others. However, since a review reflects the reviewer’s subjective opinion, I’m giving the game an above-average rating.

By Julián RamírezEven after seeing the ending, we kept playing because we fell in love with Forspoken, its protagonist, its exciting combat, and the fun way we use magical parkour to navigate the world. It's true that the story isn't particularly original and progression seemed very slow at first, but we believe that many of the criticisms leveled at its dialogue and protagonist are unfounded. Frey is one of the most charismatic heroines we've played recently, and it's easy to empathize with her, even at her worst.

By Niko LähteenmäkiAlthough Forspoken has more points of criticism than the average game and there are definitely better RPGs, the "DON'T BUY THIS" campaign by certain YouTube personalities feels a bit over the top. There are some good elements after all, and the gameplay itself is quite enjoyable. The fantasy adventure that blends the present and the past strongly reminds me of the '90s, when similar "ordinary person in a magical world" setups were seen more frequently. Too bad, that the main character is quite unlikeable.

By Vincenzo D'AlcantaraForspoken was a very difficult title to evaluate. The action-RPG from Luminous Productions is graced with an excellent, functional, and most importantly, fun core gameplay. Unfortunately, this gem is placed within an open world that feels structurally outdated, filled with "filler" activities that are not very engaging. The greatest strength of Forspoken lies in its ability to remain enjoyable even within such an ideally boring structure. For these reasons, and keeping in mind all the previously mentioned criticisms, including those related to the narrative, our recommendation is still to follow the White Rabbit into its hole.
