FIFA 23 (2022)

FIFA 23 is perfectly serviceable - the gluttony of FIFA fans won't find much to complain about. Truth be told, the formula is so one-dimensional that it is hard to get wrong after iterating on the same product year after year. Subtle tweaks to gameplay do mix things up, but not enough has been done to refresh the modes on offer. Either EA is out of ideas, or they are storing them up for the next game in their new franchise. Anyone looking for a football game in 2023, though, should certainly stick with the tried and tested FIFA.

FIFA 23 signs off on EA and FIFA's partnership with another solid entry that brings the gameplay experience closer to the real thing, but it's once again sullied by its Ultimate Team monetisation.

FIFA 23 marks the best possible end to the nearly three-decade partnership between EA Sports and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association. It could have been more daring, especially in modes, but this feels like an optimization chapter rather than an innovation one. For real novelties, we'll probably have to wait for EA Sports FC's debut next year. In the meantime, FIFA 23 delivers more realistic gameplay while still emphasizing the sport's spectacle.

For football purists, it’s overall a great experience considering the general flow of the game, while others looking for that specific arcade feel might not be as impressed.
